Is it cheesy to give kids furniture as christmas gifts, but not their main presents?

I finished my christmas shopping for my 12 and 13 year olds. They are getting a ds lite and lots of those little expensive gadgets. When they are wrapped up, they don’t look like much. I miss the good old days of big cheap toys when they were younger.

I was planning on remodelling their room including some bunk beds. They come in boxes that I would have to assemble. I was thinking maybe I could wrap them up as presents. they technically are for them. I could have them open them and here, “man… furniture.” When they get through the 5 bigger furniture boxes, I could have them open their “real” presents. It would be kinda like in that christmas carol movie where the Red Ryder BB gun was hidden behind the tree.
